The house
Ooh La La exists because Philbert Honore loves to make clothes that people remember. A ball gown that holds under carnival light. A bridal cathedral that walks down an aisle. A Mardi Gras look built bead by bead. That love is not a slogan. It is years at the machine, at the table, at the fitting.
Quality here means the garment is made, not bought finished and labeled. The pattern is ours. The cut is ours. The sewing, the beads, the glass, the finish — done in this city, in the United States. You commission a piece. We build it to your measurements. Custom size and color stay in the price.
Craftsmanship is the whole point. Hours in the cloth. Structure that stands. Surfaces that catch light the way they should. This is American couture with a New Orleans hand — not a factory look with a New Orleans name.
What we stand on
He has been sewing since 1986 because the work still pulls him in. Second lines, balls, weddings, Mardi Gras — clothes that have to move, photograph, and last the night.
Pattern, cut, construction, embellishment, fitting, finish. The same hands that drew the look sew it. Nothing is sent overseas to be completed.
Every gown we sell is made in the United States — designed, cut, fitted, and sewn in New Orleans. That is the house. That is the product.
The designer
The craft started in New Orleans. Second-line culture in 1985. Sewing in 1986. Professional work in 1988. ESSENCE Festival fashion panels in 1998, 2000, 2005, and 2008. In 2000 he apprenticed with Victor Costa in Texas. He showed original collections at Paris Fashion Week in 2004 and 2008.
Before this house he ran shops at Esplanade Mall, Oakwood Mall, and on Peter Street across from Saks. Originals outsold the imported rack. That is why Ooh La La opened in 2011: to make the garment, not to resell someone else’s.
The Palais is three house gowns. Bridal is five cathedral looks. The OOH LA LA collection is forty originals. Mardi Gras is masking, court, and Calliope Throne. Come by appointment at 650 Poydras, or commission from the lookbook.
